HISTORY

Prairie View North's & South's name was derived from the French word prairie. The Rest Areas are located on the rich prairie soil of North Central Illinois. These areas were once occupied much of Illinois in pre-settlement times. A small portion of that grassland has been recreated on these Rest Area grounds as a reminder of the vast prairie that once existed in this area.
